Bridging the gap between climate and weather

Abstract

The interagency National Earth System Prediction Capability (ESPC) collaboration convened a 2.5-day workshop with 106 representatives from several federal and state agencies, as well as from universities and private corporations, to discuss seasonal to subseasonal (S2S) forecasting. Broad discussion focused on highlighting user needs, agency capabilities and products, gaps between needs and capabilities, and potential operational and technological solutions to address those gaps, especially in defining and refining postprocessing solutions, developer metrics, and reliability metrics (28 February - 1 March, 2018; NOAA Center for Weather and Climate Prediction, College Park, MD).
